Physical Description:
Trilby is really quite small of stature. She stands no higher than 5' 2''. All of her features are rather petite. She is not very curvaceous either, though that's not to say that the curves aren't there. Her skin is very pale, considering her lifestyle, but she blames it on her German lineage. Her face is round and oval-shaped, with high cheekbones and a somewhat long nose. Her lips are small, but well-porportioned to the rest of her face and look similar to the bud of a flower. Her pale, silvery gray eyes are large and round, giving her a constantly inquisitive and curious appearance.
Her hair is a dark reddish-brown color, and very curly. She usually keeps it at about shoulder length. It's wild and wiry and she can hardly do anything with it, so usually just keeps it down or wears a hat. Trilby's colthing style is somewhat eccentric, at least as eccentric as it can be considering her limited access to materials. She doesn't often where much make-up, but she likes for her clothes to have bright colors. She makes her clothes out of whatever she can get, so it's usually just the ordinary style of dress though. Whenever she can, however, she likes to incorporate interesting colors or prints.
Personality:
Once you’ve gotten to know her, Trilby is really not the sort of person you’d expect to be working in a store, or having an ordinary job at all. At first glance, there’s really not anything remarkable about her at all. She’s quiet and doesn’t say much of anything to anyone. Occasionally she might stare at someone or hum an eerie, unfamiliar tune while she sews, but other than that, she’s not intimidating. Though if she stares at you long enough, you might get the creeps. Behind her somewhat shy demeanor lies a sleepless mind and an insatiable curiosity.
Those who take the time to talk to Trilby know she’s a little… different. She’s always moving about, putting things in order when at work, or cleaning things, humming under her breath all the while. She’s quite a character to talk to, if you can get her to talk. Though she doesn’t usually say much, when she does speak, the things she says are usually very insightful and intelligent, because she is really a very observant person. They are also sometimes quite erratic, and people rarely take what she says seriously. If one bothers to ponder one of Trilby’s bits of advice, however, they will find that she is actually quite accurate.
Other times, Trilby spaces out quite a lot. She can be in the middle of a conversation at one moment, and then suddenly fall silent. She may stare at the way the light of a lantern shine’s on the waxy leaves of a nearby tree for hours on end. She might notice a particularly appealing wildflower and pluck it, twirling it in her fingers and mumbling incoherently to herself until the petals are crushed and fall from the stem. Usually these little episodes are harmless, but most people do find her wilder flights of fancy to be more than a little unsettling. Sometimes even frightening.
But one thing that Trilby loves above all is simply to know things. She is a very curious creature by nature, and is constantly asking questions whenever the opportunity presents itself. Whenever she becomes very interested in any particular subject, she can be somewhat of a pest, though she tries her best not to be. She is never really satisfied with making assumptions or guesses, and is always willing to learn just about anything, no matter what the subject is. She seems to have a short attention span when it comes to these things though. She may be feverishly devoted to learning everything there is to know about something on one day, and then completely abandon it the next day for something else on a whim.
She really loves to help people, and is a very good listener, but others rarely follow the advice she gives. They simply nod and brush her words away, only finding her earnestness to be somewhat endearing. She also occasionally enjoys stirring up a little trouble every now in again, when things get too quiet, but it is never linked back to her. No one ever suspects of her causing any mischief whatsoever, believing her to be wholly innocent.
Past:
Trilby was born in the busy city of Berlin, Germany. She lived with her parents and her older brother, Rudy, in a small house on the outskirts of town. Her parents were relatively wealthy people, and took great pride in the upbringing of their children. They oversaw their son's education, and they made sure that their daughter became a proper young lady. Rudy was sent to grammar school in the city, while Trilby was kept at home and taught how to be a proper lady. She was always immensely jealous of her brother, but they got along just the same.[/blockquote]
Once the children were nearly grown, there was a lot of talk about immigration to the Americas. It was told that there were great opportunies there for fortune and making history. Most families could not afford to make the trip, but the Witte's decided it was worth it. The parents sent their children off to America in order to better themselves, under the condition that Rudy look after his sister and keep her in his house until she married. They made the long trip and safely landed in New Orleans, Louisiana. They stayed there for some time, performing odd jobs to make ends meet until they could make the journey to the west, which was their true destination.
Finally, the time came when they were able to pack up and continue on their way. Rudy had saved up the money. They traveled all the way up to Cahone, Colorado. Unfortunately, Rudy did not survive the trip. He succumbed to an illness and passed on very shortly before they reached town. Trilby buried himself and used the money to purchase a meager home. Though she didn't like it, she took the only job that was available to her, in O' Roarke's market and outfitting. She hasn't lived there long, so far.
