Xander James Caerson was headed for some town here in Colorado that wasn't too far from here. He got up from his bed roll and rolled it up so that he could load it onto Elliot, his black quarter horse whom was six years old and tall enough for Xander to ride. There was a skinny paint foal, that he'd bought a couple days ago from a man who was going to kill it, tied to a small but thick stick that he'd dug into the ground. The colt was just small and couldn't walk long distances so they had to rest often. The town was close enough that the colt named Ixi. Ixi was hot headed and hard to handle. He was easily spooked too which was annoying to Xander but he wasn't about to drop him off on his own. He was rather attached to Ixi. The colt spooked as soon as he went over to get Elliot saddled. Xander rolled his light blue eyes and shivered slightly. He had a light button up shirt and the air was quite cold because it was way early in the morning. Elliot didn't seem to be ready to ride this morning but Xander didn't really care. They needed to get out of here before some sort of wild animal came and ate little Ixi or attacked Elliot.
Xander could see his own breath and he knew he needed to eat soon but he didn't have much left. He got out a piece of bread and chomped on that. Elliot whinnied so he gave half of his piece of bread to the stubborn black Quarter Horse that got whatever he wanted. Ixi spooked again when Xander came up close but Xander just went and untied the long rope that was attached to Ixi's halter and tied it around the horn of the saddle that was on Elliot. Elliot didn't really like Ixi but Ixi was very fond of Xander's riding horse. Xander James Caerson put Elliot's bridle on over his rope halter because he was sort of in a hurry. He loaded all his stuff on the back of the saddle and mounted Elliot from the right side. He always taught his horses that he was mounting from the right because they got touchy if you mounted on the left even though that's the way you're supposed to mount a horse. Xander figured it made stealing his horses a little more difficult. He kicked Elliot's side so that he moved into a walk. There was no sign that he had been sleeping there except for the fact that there was footprints and bread crumbs there.
They walked and walked and Ixi started battling the rope and Elliot was starting to get annoyed with the little colt who wasn't even off the bottle yet. Xander knew they were almost there even though he'd never been there; the reason he knew they were almost there was because he saw the small town in the distance. It definitely wasn't much which would be good for Xander who probably wasn't going to stay there that long. His parents had visited here before apparently when he was young but he didn't remember them ever leaving their home. His father had apparently gone there to get a couple cattle from one of the ranches here and he'd definitely come back with a couple. The ranch hands and John, his father, had brought back six or seven that looked like they were in bad shape. Xander had been sick at the time and just noticed the new ones but he hadn't remembered his father leaving at all. Finally, Xander Caerson entered the town wearing a light blue button up shirt, jeans, cowboy boots, and a brown felt cowboy hat.
Elliot and Ixi got excited when they entered civilization and now it was about midday because they had walked so slow with Ixi. Xander started looking for a place to keep Ixi until he either settled down here or left the place. Ixi couldn't sleep under the stars even if Xander and Elliot could. He stopped in front of a building that he knew was a Livery. Elliot tried to continue walking but Xander held the reins tight. He was deciding whether this would be okay for Ixi.
