Name: Jake Colburn
Age: 27 years old
Gender: Male
Heritage: Jake is a mutt in every meaning of the word, though mostly a mix of Caucasian bloods.
Job Position: Sheriff
Physical Description: Jake is given an invaluable imposing nature due simply to his height, standing at a full 6’1’’. He is lithe and strong, packed with tight muscle, though not quite as bulky as some. Jake is always clean shaven and keeps as respectable an appearance as he can, doing his kind of work. He has rich cobalt blue eyes and mahogany hair that is cropped quite short, hidden most of the time beneath his black hat. He is never seen without a pair of handguns at his sides and a knife or two hidden on his person, and he often carries an additional rifle with his packs when traveling.
There is one oddity about Jake… a black tattoo of a rattler sprawls over his left shoulder blade. It is done in immense detail, poised as though to strike any moment. Few know of this, however, due to the fact that he doesn’t take much to wandering shirtless. It’s a bit of a mystery why it’s there.
Personality: There is no denying Jake is a working man, heart and soul. He has a dogged way of doing things; doing them quick, doing them well, and doing them thoroughly. It is extremely unadvisable to get between him and one of his tasks, as he will often become sharp and impatient. Though many like to think that the law and sheriffs in these parts are useless fools who can easily be outmaneuvered, Jake will soon give them a shocking dose of his reality. He isn't afraid to be ruthless, and there's always a new trick up his sleeve.
As romance goes, Jake is a tough nut to crack. He is unceasingly cordial and kind to any women he meets, but none of the ladies have yet gotten to first name basis with him. He keeps himself carefully distanced, seeming not to desire a pretty little wife to have at home. This has not become an issue for him as of yet, considering that the ratio between men and women in the far west is usually uneven. There are plenty of eager men to take his place chasing after the available girls.
Past: Jake is the youngest of three sons born to the former foreman of the Iron Star Ranch, now deceased. He grew up helping out on the ranch as much as he could, and is a jack of many trades when it comes to repairs, dealing with animals, and looking after himself. As a youth he was quite fiesty, often getting into trivial brawls. He was frustrated and angered, being constantly written off as the youngest and least capable of the Colburn men. He felt the need to prove himself, but only ever ended up looking all the more foolish.
Old Tom, owner of the ranch and sheriff of the town soon came to the point where he threatened Jake with either helping out with the duties of the town or staying more than just one night in the cells. Soon enough, Sheriff Emerson became something of a mentor for the youth and one of the only men to take him seriously. Likewise, Old Tom enjoyed the boy’s company, having no sons of his own. Jake soon discovered that he could apply his fiery fight towards keeping law, and soon threw heart and soul into it. When he was nearing his twentieth year, Jake struck out on his own, working as something of a bounty hunter. There’s no telling what sorts of adventure and trouble he got into, but when he reappeared in Cahone six years later, it was plainly obvious that he had lost any remaining boyishness and become the type of hardened man that only the harsh place and times could create.
A few months after his return, Sheriff Emerson grudgingly recognized that he was becoming too old for the strains his work demanded. Jake assumed the former sheriff’s role as law keeper of Cahone, and has been so for almost a year now.
